Calculate snow loads according to DIN EN 1991-1-3 (Germany)

In Germany, the characteristic snow load on the ground depends on the snow load zone and the altitude of the site. Using shape coefficients, the snow loads on roofs are derived from it – including drifting, roof level differences, valleys and low eaves.

LoCaStatik determines zone and altitude from the address and calculates all roof situations according to DIN EN 1991-1-3 with the National Annex.

What DIN EN 1991-1-3 regulates

Snow load zones 1, 1a, 2, 2a and 3

The zone map of the National Annex assigns every site. Zones 1a and 2a increase the values of zones 1 and 2 by 25 %.

Altitude dependence

The ground snow load increases quadratically with the altitude above sea level, with zone-dependent minimum values of 0.65, 0.85 and 1.10 kN/m² for zones 1, 2 and 3.

North German Plain

For sites in the North German Plain the standard additionally requires a check with an accidental snow load of 2.3 times the characteristic value.

Shape coefficients

For flat, monopitch, duopitch, vaulted and valley roofs as well as for roof level differences, drifting at walls, trough situations and low eaves.

How it works with LoCaStatik

  1. Enter address Select the site by address. Zone, basic values and altitude are determined automatically.
  2. Select structural element Select the roof shape or structural element and enter the geometry. The project's standard determines the coefficients.
  3. Download report Export the results with all intermediate steps and references to the standard as a PDF for the structural analysis.

Frequently asked questions

Which snow load zone applies to my site?

The assignment follows the snow load zone map of the National Annex. LoCaStatik determines zone and altitude from the address and states both in the report.

How is the snow load on the roof determined?

From the ground snow load, the shape coefficient of the roof shape and the exposure and thermal coefficients. For drifting, roof level differences and valleys, the additional rules of the Eurocode and the National Annex apply.

Can I calculate snow loads for roof level differences and annexes?

Yes, LoCaStatik offers dedicated modules for roof level differences, drifting at walls and superstructures, trough situations and low eaves.
